SCB Oxford Ltd supply a diverse range of aggregate materials across the area, including in Bicester, Banbury, Swindon, Witney and Chipping Norton. They're suitable for both domestic and commercial projects and examples include:
RECYCLED 6F5
Produced from waste material we receive, this recycled aggregate is a popular sub-base material ideal as an affordable sub base and often more cost-effective than limestone.
RECYCLED TYPE 1
Made from recycled hardcore, it ranges in size from dust particles to 40mm pieces. Known for its excellent compaction properties, it's a more affordable alternative to quarried type 1.
RECYCLED 80-40 CLEAN STONE
This economical material is perfect for drainage applications, providing an effective and budget-friendly solution.
MOT TYPE 1 LIMESTONE
Made from crushed limestone, this aggregate also ranges from dust to 40mm pieces. Its superior compaction makes it a favourite choice for a variety of projects.
SAND AND BALLAST SUPPLIES
We offer many types of sand to meet your needs including:
Soft mortar sand: Ideal for bricklaying, paving, and internal rendering.
Sharp sand: Perfect for screeding, external rendering, block paving, slab laying, and can be used under topsoil for lawn bases due to its permeability and ability to improve lawn conditions.
20mm ballast
This is a versatile mixture of sand and gravel, ideal for foundations, footings, sub-bases, pathways, and concrete mixes.

What is construction aggregate?Construction aggregate is a range of materials, including sand, topsoil, recycled concrete, ballast and crushed stone. All of these are used in the construction process throughout Oxford and Oxfordshire, and are some of the most mined materials worldwide. Construction aggregates are commonly used as a mixer with cement in order to create concrete. They are usually placed into two categories: fine aggregate and coarse aggregate.
-
How much aggregate do I need? The amount of aggregate needed depends on the materials you desire and the area you want to be covered. There are aggregate calculators available online, both manual and electronic.
-
Can I get recycled aggregate in Oxford?Absolutely. With quarried aggregates constantly rising in price, many businesses are looking for cheaper alternatives. Recycled standards are improving with the investment into new recycling technologies, and companies can now provide high-quality recycled aggregates with multiple benefits. In fact, these alternatives are becoming more favourable to clients and customers throughout Oxfordshire.
-
What aggregate is best for concrete? As an aggregate supplier, we can confirm that materials which are smoother - such as natural sands and crushed stone - tend to be preferable for mixing concrete. We would recommend these as well as gravel, which are all highly acceptable for making top quality concrete. In general, the chosen materials for concrete mixing will need to be clean, hard and free of absorbed chemicals. There has also been success with recycling old concrete, crushed to the size needed for concrete aggregate.
-
What makes a good quality aggregate?Aggregate needs to be strong, hard, durable and free from anything that could compromise the quality. If the aggregate is flaky and contains elongated pieces, it needs to be avoided. Many important qualities of the aggregate can depend upon its physical aspects and the aspects of the original rock. As SCB Oxford Ltd is an aggregate supplier, we ensure all aggregates used for clients are of the highest possible quality, whether they’re recycled or brand new.
-
How is the strength of aggregate determined? For coarse materials, the aggregate crushing test is used to determine the resistance of a certain aggregate. This is done through a gradually applied compressive load and is a numerical indicator of the aggregate’s strength. Aggregates are generally chosen for their resilience, regardless of the type of material. But this is usually not a factor to consider, except when working with lightweight and high strength concrete.
-
Do I have to be at home when the delivery is made?Yes, you should be at home in order for you to accept, check and sign for the delivery.
-
Are the bulk bags returnable? No, you cannot return the bags. However, you may find them useful to store garden equipment or waste.
-
Will I get an invoice or receipt?Yes, we will send you an email with all the receipt information so you have a permanent copy.
-
Do I need to use edgings?Edgings are optional and help to achieve the fullest compaction of the aggregate. Concrete, timber, metal, or stone edgings can be used for edging purposes if desired.
-
Can I lay aggregates on a slope? It is not recommended to lay our aggregates on slopes steeper than a 1 in 15 gradient. Steeper slopes can cause the aggregates to shift with water flow during heavy rain, potentially creating holes in the ground where the aggregate has been displaced.
-
Can aggregates be delivered loose or bagged? As your trusted aggregate supplier, our aggregates are delivered either bagged to preserve the aggregate material or loose depending on your specific requirements.
-
What is the difference between recycled and primary aggregates?Recycled aggregates are sourced from various construction wastes, while primary aggregates come directly from the quarry in their natural state. Recycled aggregates offer a cheaper alternative.
